I was cleaning a display that held this very pedal at the shop last night and I thought of you, CKD... just wanted to let you know.

Aww thanks. You should take some in focus photos for me. I still haven't replaced my camera, and my neighbor's camera is still shite.

I sold a pair of these very pedals at the shop last night and once again thought of you... perhaps I was meant to own some myself. What do you think?

I still like them a lot. I haven't had to do anything to them yet, which is a good sign.

Why didn't you like the atacs? SPD guy myself but I was thinking of switching over for my next pair.

I just couldn't get the hang of the release, and the float felt a bit more binding to me. I could get out if I really thought about it, but I was just much more comfortable with the release of a well set up pair of SPD's. And my goofy screwed up left knee wasn't wild about how the float would gradually get tighter as I spun my ankle further. Granted, I've been running SPD setups for a long time now, so I may just be biased against running anything new.

I'm definitely glad that I bought the ATAC's from a place with a really forgiving return policy. I would normally go to the LBS for a biggish purchase like that, but I didn't want to be stuck with a set of pedals that I wasn't wild about.

In response to a thread on the commuting forum at BF entitled "Shimano 540 pedals review ? ", I linked to this very review in the least subversive way possible, then I followed the link and read it again. Well done. I got the 520s 'cause I'm a cheapweenie, but you almost convinced me to return 'em and drop the extra scratch for these.

Hopefully my mention of this review over there won't prompt a lecture from Stromcrowe 'bout how the two forums aren't s'posed to touch.
