Moving to San Diego
So I just got admitted to grad school at UCSD and will probably end up moving there in the summer. Any SD people here? I will probably try to get into grad housing for my first year as it's pretty cheap but are there other cheap options nearby the school? i'd imagine there is a lot of road cycling there but whats the scene like? Where's the good food? Any advice?

go north to ride.
there are tons of yummy places downtown. Good food everywhere though basically
no cheap living options that i know of.

It seems like San Diego is pretty expensive rent wise. The cheapest grad housing option is about 480 a month and it seems pretty reasonable. Ever been to the velodrome there?
I raced at the velodrome for years, it is a nice easy riding track. Go to Kearny Moto Park for BMX!
in before a whales vagina.
wth: Star Fleet Academy is still not a real thing.
you mean the penis?

The rent isn't so bad around North Park/Hillcrest/Mission Hills/South Park/University Heights. That is if you're just looking for a room. In the UCSD area there isn't much that's reasonable but a lot that's doable.
The cycling scene here is primarily road and tri(ew). There's a good group ride every weekend in almost every part of town. The "Chili's" ride is my favorite. There are a lot of doctors and older cyclist. The road racing scene is starting to get younger though. I'm actually gonna try my hand at it next year. I think a lot of the people who were into fixed and actually were somewhat serious about it, are getting into racing, track and road. It's cool.
The number of "fixay kids" has grown to an almost unbearable degree in the last year. No comment on that "scene", just the usual jackasses.
Lots of good coast riding. Especially near UCSD, you can just cruise up the 101 and back no problem.
I race track here. It's relaxed, almost too much so, but competitive. You don't need a USA cycling license to race. Just take the adult velodrome classes(1 day a week for 6 weeks) and you're ready to race. Try it, it's fun! Race season starts next month and goes through Sep.(although last year they extended through Oct.). Definitely come check it out, every Tuesday night 630-ish to 9pm
Food? Everywhere. But not like NY everywhere, just spread out and sprinkled about town. Lemme know what you're into and I can try to help.
my friend seth is moving back there in sept. he's a rad guy and rides a lot.

Tall dude, who moved to Portland? I know of him, I think we've met a couple time but never formally. He's friends with Katie Kelly and Tommy and used to work at Mission Hills bikes or something?
Yep . Hes a class guy. Gonna miss him.
