yes, some people opt to route the shift cables this way for a cleaner look
doesn't really improve or degrade shifting- just changes how it looks

why threaded fork?

Cuz BD is cheap as fuck. It's taken them WAY too long to build a Cross Check knock off. They should have done this 2 years ago. I like the idea, but, again, the execution is disappointing.

I can't imagine that a threaded fork is actually cheaper. (an SE draft costs $200 and comes with threadless.)

maybe it is, but it's counter-intuitive. which i guess means it makes perfect sense in bikesdirect bizarroworld.

is it me or does the gearing on that bd xcheck copy look wider than normal?
look at the angle of the chain from the largest cog to the smallest chainring.

Are you suggesting that BD ships their bikes with extra large cogs or extra small grannies?

I don't think either (or both) would necessarily be a bad thing.

It just fails on as many levels as it wins. 5 speed internal hub with bar end shifter? YES! Wide tire clearance? NICE! Rack and fender mounts? EXCELLENT! Decent cranks and brakes? WONDERFUL! Crap headset, heavy seatpost, garbage saddle, questionable front hub, not really the best IGH hub, questionable brake levers, ugly-ass decals under clearcoat, and bought from BD? FUCK. OH WELL.

atmo the bad points listed are a bunch easier to deal with (whoall dont swap a saddlemo) than if the good poitns listed were bad, except for the uggo-i-tude. plus the levers are levers are legit double atmo

the windsor tourist (copy of the fuji touring) is $599 and pretty similar (wide gearing, steel frame, canti brakes, presumably some geometry similarities)

nah, it's kinda like the campy ergo levers that route the shift cables under the handlebar tape
vs the shimano sti levers that had the exposed shift cables

the reason campy shifts like shit has nothing to do with the cable routing.
although, it doesn't help.

I got a Kilo WT recently and it's pretty neato. The seatpost binder bolt did shear in half immediately but I had spares. Would buy again.
