there's always nice steel frames on the serotta forum. I think 1,000 is a bit high for that Merckx, especially if you're going to switch the group out.
I know nothing about Bontrager components (tiers/groups and shit) or low spoke-count wheels, nor do I know if 1,500 miles is a lot for a wheelset when buying used.
^that's a good price imo. I put nearly 3k on the same set and they still had lots left. the hubs are solid and they used bladed DT spokes. I sold mine for $150
should i:
trade this:
specialized allez, mostly sram force, rival brakes and rear der.

Frame: 57cm GT GTB.
Fork: black Soma Rush fork.
Headset: silver CK 1" Nothreadset.
Bars/stem: Syntace Stratos base bars with cut-to-length bmx grips (like longer track grips) on a Nitto UI-5GX stem, Sette OS 2" risers with Stolen Money grips and bar caps on a Truvativ Hussefelt OS stem. ( I also have a set of Nitto ADB-X Aero's with grips I can throw in)
BB: Truvativ GXP.
Cranks: Truvativ/SRAM Omnium 170mm (perfect for the GTB's high BB) w/ All-City 46t ring.
Pedals: MKS GR-9's with Soma Oppy XX quad gate clips and white Toshi doubles.
Seatpost: Bontrager Racelite
Saddle: I can put a cheap pink Velo saddle on it if you need to ride it home or something but I'm keeping my busted Arione.
Front wheel: Black Deep V laced to a black Surly New hub, black spokes, 28c Panaracer RibMo tire.
Back wheel: Black Deep V laced to a black CHUB fixed/fixed hub, DA 16t and EAI Superstar 18t cogs, DA lockrings, 28c Panaracer RibMo tire (needs to be replaced). Built by Fuzzy at Bicycle Revolutions. I can throw in a Surly 17t cog too if you want.

S&S couplers... yay or nay?
I hated not having a bike on a trip recently. It was horrible. I'm getting this Stowe frame real cheap that needs a repaint, and Bilenky had a special at the bike show that got me thinking about putting couplings on something for travel.
I'm not a huge traveller. My other options I guess are the Ritchey Break Away, the Dahon Tournado, or the Surley Traveller's Check (probably cost on the Surley)
Anyone priced this out?

paul fhub at the local shop for 65 plus tax money. figured it could make for a pretty nice front wheel, but I don't really need any more wheels...

I dunno, I always think that something that came stock in the 80s with turkey levers and stem shifters is just about worthless.
I don't know if the Panasonic name means any better quality than a similar-looking Schwinn.
probably not, but when you get used to paying 100 for a saddle or set of tires, getting a whole bike for that price seems like a bargain. the kabuki is kind of cool, small though. if the pana had a more classic paint scheme id probably get just to get.
you shouldn't.
I hate those Pana logos. that bike is worth about $100. you're not getting much of a deal. it would sell for $200 in the city. but if you like bikes, it's not good enough to go out of your way for.

duder. that bike has suicide levers and stamped dropouts, and a derailleur claw. probs hi-ten.
junk junk junk.
but if i found that for sale at a yard sale for under 20 i'd buy it to flip.
it is in nice shape tho.
why u need such a bottom feeder bike? if you need a beater then you should buy the cheapest bikesdirect jawn. or try to find a used bikesdirect jimmy.

i dont need it, it is down the street from me. i dont really know the different pana levels. stem shifters and suicide levers usually give it away though.
are there wheels on that setup? what kind of crank arms? bars, stem, seatpost, saddle, etc?
all stock. so bonty track wheels, bonty external bb crank (truvativ/sram messenger i think). its an 1100 retail bike. no doubt its a better race bike then the pista, but i do like the classic look of the pista, besides racing it, it was going to be my knock around bike. hm. so this bike. i hate ergo bars, but i have a set of deda newtons ready to go on.

hell, 40 bucks, if my feet can reach the pedals and my hands can reach the stem and it's not wholly rusted over....
ps TEPR if its slightly too big for me aren't you looking for a beater MTB?

solid price, since it has cassette
~~
bringing me to my 2nd question...my drivetrain is 9spd. Can I throw a 9spd cassette on this hub w/out issues?
yes
~~
eh. the selects are so so. id bargain. if they were races or older race x lites, then yes.
www.kissena.info
got them for 100, cassette included (even though i have no use for it).
Anyway, mega front brake shuddering is happening that didn't occur with old front wheel. God damnit

After seeing your stable and knowing what happened to the spicer, I'd say yes.
i'd say no, that's a hell of a road bike and your scrambler is probably 85% of what the GTB is
~~
it's an interesting problem. i don't ride my (2) road bikes at all anymore, but i also don't need 3 700c fixed gears. hmm

What is your other road set up?
While I may not be out looking for gnar to shred, if I see any gnar lying around, I'm definitely going to give it the what for. -Heath
Ultegra 9 speed, carbon bars carbon cranks carbon fork
heavier than the specialized, but it has heavy stem and seatpost and heavier wheels.
