I got these tires to replace the worn out gatorskins on my road bike because I wanted something known for quality and performance (as well as awesome green sidewalls).
I've got about 200 miles on mine and so far they are the smoothest, fastest rolling and most delicious feeling tires I've ever ridden.
That said, even in my brief usage of them, they have worn considerably. On my first ride, I watched the seam on the front tire disappear completely over the course of 40 miles.
These tires are definitely built for performance first and durability second but I've yet to flat them.
If you're looking for a fast race or training tire and can drop the coin, go with the Pro Race 3. If you're looking for sweet colorways and hella skidz brah go with something else. This maybe.
I got the green ones:

I've yet to try the 3's but I love all the 1's and 2's I've had. I've found durability to be not so bad if you can avoid cuts, which they seam to cultivate. I had one on the front of my fixie that lasted me almost 10 000k (though that could be closer to 8). By the end it had three or four boots. Make sure you go ever them regularly to inspect for glass.

I love these tires too, but they wear out too fast for regular use. They get thin and eventually look like foam when you look at them up close. Then it's constant flats.

If anyone knows of tires that feel as buttery as these, but hold up...postem!

ps. I had the white ones. classy.

not sure if it's true, but i have heard that black tires usually last longer than their colored counterparts. something about the black compounds being more durable than colored. err... coloured.

GP4000's are nearly as buttery and definitely more durable in my experience.

And I agree... 25's are the shit.

They DO come in 25, and I have a like-new pair that I am trying to get rid of. If anyone wants some 700x25s P3Rs in gray, PM me. They'll be yours for very, very cheap.

I think that it's a straight toss-up between GP4000s and the P3Rs.

The real baller tier is the Veloflex Record Clincher.

Best clincher tire in the world, period. There is no debate on the matter.

Just had that happen on one that was less than a year old, was changing out the other that was less than 6 months old due to glass slices. Still have a set for crit racing but switched to Michelin Carbon's for everyday use. Not quite as grippy, but definitely not much of a sacrifice either for less hassle.

Just tore the sidewall on my rear PR3 after, I dunno, somewhere <1,000 miles.

I probably posted this already, but I tore clean through the tire/casing on the front tire on the very first ride out. Booted it with a patch and haven't had any problems since.

I love the feeling of these tires, but damn are they consistently fragile. My next race tires are going to be Open Corsa CX's, which albeit also fragile, are reputed to be even nicer riding than PR3's.

For a training/racing mix, I'd still recommend GP4000's. The top perk of PR3's vs. other similar tires IMO is looks, especially the whites and light blues.
