Some of you may remember a few months back I made a request for tarckers to sign up to become a bone-marrow droner. At the time I was attempting to support my friend whose brother (also my friend) had leukemia. Well he passed away last month and now I have decided to run a marathon and a triathlon to raise money for the Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. I am running these in memory of my friend "stever" and in honer of his family. Steve was 35 when his clock ran out and died a year to the day of being diagnosed with blood cancer. Anyway below is a link to my found raising page if you can spare a few please do and let me know you are tarcker. Normally team in training is not my sort of thing however, I was impressed by how much support was given to the family of the patient, and how all of them said the LLS was so helpful to them in there time of need. So I felt moved to try to give something back in honer of them. On a related note I note I now need to build a road bike so I will be looking for great deals on parts for my build.

Thanks

It's always tough losing a friend; warm wishes from me to you.

On a side note, I have spare parts from a Kilo TT you could have. Tires, seatpost, stem, saddle, pedals and drops; all unused pf course. They're not what you'd find on a Madone or a SuperSix and I guess you can't beat free.

Send a PM my way if you're all about it!

Either option would be awesome. What ever is easier for you. If you send them you can decide how I use them! Ebay, Craig's list door prize etc!

Since a good number of you hear have supported (not suppressed me) I thought I would post this here. It is kind of campy but It needs to appeal to the wide range of folks who have supported me. Anyway read it if you like! If not I thank all of you for your support just the same! Tarck Bear

Howdy Folks,

Well it’s that time again! You got it -- My Team Stever in Training monthly update!

Let me start again with a BIG thanks to all who continue to support me in this these endeavors! OK, here we go. Let’s take them one at a time: the marathon, the triathlon and the fundraising!

The training for the marathon is going well. Though I must admit that some days hurt more than others. Not always in the same way however … Since I have been training I have been fighting plantar fasciitis in my left heel. (Yeah, I had never heard of it either.) It is not much fun every day when I first get out of bed it sort of walk on my tip toes until my tendon warms up! But it is not that bad, and has been slowly going away since I invested in a new pair of running shoes. Apparently, even though my old one hardly got used in the three years they sat in the closet, they nonetheless still broke down and contributed to the plantar fasiitis. Not to be outdone, my hip flexor also likes to remind of it presence by becoming really painful once I cool down following my runs. Oh, and then their was the time that I thought running barefoot through the streets of Seattle would be a good idea … well let’s just say that the HUGE blisters on the big toes and the balls of both feet proved this to NOT be a good idea. But this too is OK! Why you ask?

Because every Saturday is a long run, and this last Saturday I completed a ninety minute run, covering 8.2 miles. Making that the longest run since OBX. To my pleasant surprise, I felt good at the end, really good. I was pretty happy by this, especially when I realized that this was all but a third of a marathon, and for the long runs TNT encourages us to go a little slower than on the our shorter runs. As of now, I am hoping to complete the marathon in 4.5 hours, which should be possible since my mile pace is now around 10.5 minutes per mile. Starting next week, every Tuesday until October 6th is hill training. Yes, you got it -- I will be running up a hill and then back down for 40 minutes! In case you have never been to Seattle, this I not going to be a small task. This place has really steep hills, so even if I wanted to run on a little hill, it is unlikely I could find one! Last but not least, by the end of the month I will have completed a two hour run!

As to the triathlon … well there is not much to say except that I have officially registered for the March 28 Lavaman. AND I was the first on to sign up for this in the Washington/Alaska chapter of Team in Training! The training schedule will come out near the end of October. Until then, I just run.

Fundraising

To start with I have made the marathon goal of $1800.00!!!!!!! Actually I hit this goal on the same day as my bare foot run, so despite the painful feet, I was extra excited to get the email from TNT saying I just received a donation and met the marathon minimum! As of now, I have raised $2475.00 -- that is 31% of my total goal. Since the last update, I have received $875.00 in donations. A good number of you will be getting autographed race pictures of me thanks to your participation in the 10x10 -20x 20 challenge! Again I welcome fundraising suggestions and than those of you who have offer suggestions so far. I have a few fundraising events in the works that I hope will provide a boost in the next few weeks.

I was hoping to have a big event a month but the September Sounders raffle is stalled. I am still planning to have a raffle or silent action of an autographed Sounders T-shirt and scarf. I purchased both on August 19th the day the Sounders had a marrow drive and had them signed by 7 of the players! When I told them what I was doing, the member of the team who was behind the marrow drive said he would get the whole team to sign it, and assured me that the front office would mail them back to me… Well, I still have not received them. I will keep the faith and keep you posted! Up next -- the October fundraiser is the “Stever movie night.” This is a house party on October 17th. (This would be a good time to mark your calendars.) This one is going to be fun; we are going to show a few of Steve’s favorite movies through the projector (think 8x5ft). On the bill now, as the feature presentation is A Nightmare Before Christmas. The supporting acts might include Kill Bill, or Dexter, and as Brian G informed me, no Stever movie night would be complete without some representation of Twin Peaks. ALSO Johanna is going to donate some of Steve’s favorite items (like a Dunny Doll or 2 or a robot picture or one of his t-shirts) for a raffle or auction! For November, I am planning a bake sale and Sarah is going to make natural body products and soap for me to sell. They will be perfect for Christmas gifts so you can get those teachers and your friends on your shopping list a handmade bar of soap! (Thanks for the idea Sheila.) Keep the ideas coming folks. I think I will need to come up with a few more fundraising ideas before I meet the goal of $7700.00.

I am off to a good start, but I think I have a long road ahead of me, so please forward my website wide and far. I need all the help I can get!

Any Sounders fans? I am going to hold a fundraising raffle for an autographed T-shirt and Scarf -- Formal details and better photos to follow in the next day or two.
But for now here are quick shots of the Sounders Autographs. I am thinking two raffles, one for each item with tickets $5 each or 5 for $20. I am planning to draw the winner on the day of the last game hopefully at a local bar! There are 12 autographs in all: 26 Taylor Graham, 21 Nate Jaqua, 8 Peter Vagenas,9 Sebastion Le Toux,14 Tyron Marshall,34 John Kennedy Hurtado,23 Sanna Nyassi,15 Steven King,2 Michael Fucito,27 Lamar Neagle,16 Evan Brown, 17 Fredy Montero. (OK there are 14 but Marshall and Le Toux signed twice I think)

The idea is that I will sell tickets in person for cash or on the TNT website. If one wants to go the website route they MUST indicate that it is for tickets for the raffle at the time of donation and which item it is for. To authenticate the raffle I will write the names of person who purchases a ticket on the back of the appropriate number of tickets and send them a photo of their ticket/s. On the day of the raffle I will video all tickets going into a jar for the drawing and put the video on youtube.

PLEASE spread the word about this raffle. I really need to raise over $5000.00. If you think you know people who might be interested in this PM me your email and I will email you the details to forward. Shit even if you don't think anyone would be interested I would still be grateful if your forwarded the info!

Well that is most of the detail, I just need to go buy the raffle tickets

Tyrone Marshal's childhood friend plays on anther team, and his wife has leukemia (the friend's wife) and they are looking for a marrow donor. So the Sounders had a bone marrow drive with 7 player there to sign autographs. Being in fundraising mode, I went bought the T and Scarf to get signed, when I told Vagenas what I was doing he suggested that I ask Tyrone get the rest of the team to sign them for me. He said he would ... he did not get the whole team but he did come through with a lot of them and some good player at that! It took a few weeks and an email to the team administrator (players assistant) to get them returned, but I am fucking stoked that it worked out!

no worries, donate if you can if not so be it! Spreading the word is also really helpful! I am going to try to sell 200 tickets for each item. I might give myself until the MLS cup match instead of the last regular season match to do it.

PS I always go by Michael

Wow - nice job. Someone's gonna want that pretty badly, so you shouldn't have trouble selling them raffles.

And I'll remember the "el" from now on.

This is a fundraising raffle for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training. I am fundraising to help save lives by participating in the Seattle Marathon and the Lavaman Triathlon in March 2010. Up for auction are 2 items:

A Seattle Sounders FC T-shirt autographed by 15 players

A Seattle Sounders Scarf autographed by 15 players

The items are autographed by fifteen players: #26 Taylor Graham, #21 Nate Jaqua, #8 Peter Vagenas, #9 Sebastion Le Toux, #14 Tyron Marshall, #34 John Kennedy Hurtado, #23 Sanna Nyassi, #15 Steven King, #2 Michael Fucito, #27 Lamar Neagle, #16 Evan Brown, #17 Fredy Montero, #4 Patrick Ianni, plus one signature that I am unable to identify. (Tyrone Marshal and Le Toux signed the shirt twice.) Many of the autographs were obtained during the Sounders FC bone marrow drive on August 18th; The rest of the autographs were collected by Tyrone Marshall who generosity offered to help my efforts by getting some additional autographs for me after the marrow drive!

There are two separate raffles -- one for each item. Tickets are $5.00 each or five for $20.00. Ticket sales will be capped at 250 per item, so everyone has a good chance at winning. The winner for each raffle will be drawn once 250 tickets are sold, or on November 22nd during the MLS Cup match, whichever comes first.

Tickets can be purchased
• In person for cash
• Via a check to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society
• On my Team in Training fundraising website: http://pages.teamintraining.org/wa/Amica09/mwilsey

When purchasing through the website one MUST indicate in the donation note that the donation is for raffle ticket/s and how many tickets for each item they are purchasing, or for which item they are purchasing the ticket/s for. If there is no note with the donation, I will consider the donation a non-raffle donation, as I only have one way to receive donations and not everyone is interested in the raffle.

Tickets numbered 501 480 – 501 730 are for the t-shirt raffle. Tickets numbered 501 731 – 501 981 are for the scarf raffle.

To authenticate the raffles, I will videotape all tickets with the names visible going into a jar for the drawing, and the drawing itself. The video will then be posted on youtube. For tickets purchased over Internet, I will write the names and phone number of person who purchases a ticket on the back of the appropriate number of tickets, and send them a photo of their ticket/s. For tickets purchased in person, the purchaser will write their contact information on their ticket.

In their inaugural MLS season, The Sounders have already won the US Open Cup and are in a good position to advance to the MLS playoffs where they will have a chance to compete for the MLS Cup. Don’t miss this chance to win a unique piece Sounders and MLS memorabilia while supporting the live saving research funded by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Thank you for your support and PLEASE spread the word about this raffle!

I'm growing a mustache for the month of Movember & raising money for prostate & testicular cancer. You can donate to me here... https://www.movember.com/us/donate/your-details/member_id/292134/

I'd also like to encourage other Tarckers to sign up. I'd start a Tarck team but I already joined a local team. Fuck yeah mustaches.

Doing Movember as well. I look like a goddamn 18 year old again. And I'll look even worse with a stupid mustache (I HATE MUSTACHES). But it's for a good cause, and my dad's been dealing with prostate cancer stuff again lately, so I feel like I'm doing something positive in a round about way. No team, but if there are other tarckers doing it I'll join you. PM me if you want donation info (I have to look it up again, coz lazy).

I'm doing the Tour de Cure for diabetes in April. Most of my grandparents (4/6) have/had diabetes and maybe if they rode bikes when they were younger, they wouldn't have gotten it later in life (except for one of my grandfathers, he got it as a child). Trying to get my sister to do it with me.
The link to my page is in my sig.

I work for the Midtown Greenway Coalition, a super sweet non-profit in Minneapolis that is centered around a commuter bike trail called the Midtown Greenway. Today is a magical day in fundraising/donation giving where your money can be doubled (or, at the very least, increased substantially through outside donors). Here's the spiel:

Increase your Donation Impact TODAY with GiveMN's Give to the Max Day!

As you consider your charitable end-of-year giving this season, please consider giving on Give to the Max Day (8 a.m. Nov. 17 to 8 a.m. Nov 18). Max your contribution to by making an online donation on Nov. 17 to the Midtown Greenway Coalition. Go to GiveMN.org and type in Midtown Greenway Coalition.

Thanks all!

I've recently signed up for the MS Chesapeake Challenge bike ride this May. I'll be riding the 100 mile course on my track bike.
A few of my co workers have MS and their also riding with me. I'll put the link in my sgnature for more details. Anyone in the area want to ride with me?

was supposed to ride in the Tour de Cure in May, but doing kemmerjob. I still have to raise some money, if you're feeling generous, and want to donate to find a cure for diabetes, you can donate here. Thanks!
