i usually sew well enough to patch pants, put punk patches on shit, you know, the general "i stitched this myself with dental floss" kind of thing...but kate has had my back on more than one occasion and shown me how to use the sewing machine, but i'm still ascared of that beast.

think of the sewing machine pedal as a car throttle.
don't just stomp on it, only put your foot half way up it
and use it to go slow, or speed up.
work your way to going full speed.
you don't have to be in a rush to make anything or get anywhere.
it will be there when you are done.
it's just like....re-learning how to brake on a road bike after riding fixed, you don't remember just how much pressure is necessary to do how much work. i'm sure if i practiced more i'd get it down, but i just don't have enough patience/sewing to do to get really good. i've done a couple of things competently, but not great by a long shot.

i worked on a tired table industria I got for $100 for several months.
I wish I still had it, it was one of my favorite machines, and I have one of my favorite bags on it.
If you ever come to Cleveland, you'll have to try out my Juki. I'm really into mechanical stuff, especially sewing machines, and this thing is like a wet dream. I removed the bobbin winder a few days ago and saw the upper drive shaft inside for the first time. It's like an inch thick of machined stainless steel! I love it.
So I won't be sewing for a bit.
My apartment burned down,
which means all the my thread and and small parts are gone.
Also means all my fabric is gone. when I got that white cordura it was $3 a yard.
A firefighter saved my bikes, but that is it.

On topic, I sewed a duffel bag in home ech in 7th grade. It was awesome. I haven't sewed since, but I often think back on it fondly. Maybe I should get my wife to help me get started again.
I am ok, I was out of town, I am still in sf. all my stuff is in alabama.

Gary/Kilgoretrout become an overt asshole to me after the brief stint as a mod. I'm glad I didn't run into him last summer in Boston.

You should try sewing on an industrial with a worn out clutch motor...hah. I did that for a year. I like to think that it made me a better operator.
